Goodnight Snow Date
I remember so vividly when Eric and I were dating that one of our favorite things to do was to take long walks on our University campus during the snow storms. I also remember that feeling at the end of the night of having to say goodnight to each other and go back to our own residence. How I dreaded leaving Eric every night!! If I could have married him on first sight I would have. It took him longer to get the clue that it was God’s will for us to marry.
Anyway, Wednesday night it began to really snow hard. I was alerted to the heavy snow storm by the constant flashing of my bedroom reading light indicating that the power lines were being affected. Curious as I am I decided to get out of bed and take a peek. It was so beautiful!!!
The fresh snow falling in the night reminded me of our first kiss. Our first kiss was outside during a snow storm before saying goodnight to
each other. No worries… we were outside the door of our campus
Pastor’s house! lol Did I just lose all credibility here?!Eric actually lived with our campus Pastor at the time while doing his internship for Chi Alpha.
Back to last night… The kids were sound asleep and the neighbors were all in bed as it was 2am. The silence only added to the beauty. What was a wife to do on such a perfectly romantic, glorious night?! Wake her hubby up and go take a walk in the snow for a spontaneous date, of course!
Never seen a snow storm at 2am? Well, here you go!
Our arborvitaes starting to droop over. Eric said they looked like men in white coats lined up. I think he was tired!
Can you find our picnic table?
Here’s our picnic table. See how much snow we have gotten this winter! This is even after having rain that melted tons of it away. Our entire yard is under at least three feet of snow.
Lilac branches encased in snow.
Underneath our birch tree.
Our Forsythia looks like one big giant snowball!
Our neighbors maple tree that hangs over our driveway.
…and finally the happy couple after our walk around the yard! This time without having to say goodbye.
Sorry no kissin’ pictures!
Last but not least…. proof that yes, indeed, I crawled out of bed as I am still in my pj’s wearing my hubby’s coat. Eric made me put this pic on! The kids were giggly and jealous to find out that Mama and Papa went out in the middle of the night to play in the snow.

Awww what precious memories! Eric is one fantastic guy! Fr. and I are often up at 2am but I would never be able to get him to go out for a walk in the snow once he was asleep. I remember being in Russia once and he was to tired to go out to see the white lights- his loss a bunch of us went without him! I really enjoyed your photo- I really love to the snow coming down in the still of the night. One other thing we have in common- when Fr. and I were dating- well you can call it that but we never actually lived in the same country- but when he was living in England and I would visit London , he was living at the Archdiocese- the resident of the Archbishop of Great Britain and he would have to be in by the time the doors were locked- oh how I hated those good-byes. The one’s at the airport were just gut wrenching- especially during my year of chemo and radio when he had to go back to London for his studies. That must be why we both (you and me) dread when our hubby’s have to travel for their work…we just love them so and we worry that they may get hurt and never come back. Anyway, I really enjoyed your snow date and lovely memories! God Bless you both always and may He grant you Many, Many, more happy, healthy years!
fun times!
Absolutely beautiful!
I can’t think of anything sweeter or more romantic.
What a cool date!!
FUNtastic! I love it. Where in the world do you live that you have that much snow right now? It is awesome!
BEAUTIFUL!! And a very sweet story
How sweet. We never see snow like that in our part of the country. I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than a foot here. That’s great that you went out in the snow and enjoyed it.
ryc. thank you , Sarah! I think of the same thing- about living in a fallen world!
