Modest Swimming
I suppose it shouldn't surprise those of you that know me well that I am very conservative in most areas of our life. As I watch my girls grow up I am only becoming more insistent that my girls (and myself) learn to always be modest in their apparel. For years I have to admit I tended to mock those who were like this and thought they were over board. However, having my twin girlies now has completely changed my thinking! (If you think this is bad wait until you see what I am like when a boy tries to court them!!!)
Seriously, are these not the cutest, most feminine swim suits?! Phoebe is showing you that under the skirt is the full suit that goes down to just above her knees like you would see in a normal UV suit that I typically have them wear. I love the modesty addition of the skirt on these though! I do wish the sleeves went down further not for modesty, but for sun coverage like the UV suits. Regardless, they are adorable and my desire for modesty is definitely met with these! You can find them at Swim Modest. Although, they seem to be out of inventory currently. My girls are wearing the waikiki color.
Would you believe we were blessed by getting them half off the normal price too? Yup! A local homeschool Mom ordered these for her two girls, but found them just a bit too small so she offered them to us at half the price. They are brand new, never worn and rather than go through the return process while she was also making a move overseas she blessed us. Perfect for our upcoming trip to MO! Thank you, Lord!

Those girls sure are adorable!
how cute!!! I was so convicted last year on this issue. My girlie is 4, and I realized how important it is to start teaching her young about modesty. I will have to check out that website!
Love the suits!!! Very modest and you have to start early on that.
Laura
I love those suits! I was actually going to sew one for Hannah when I found the suit she has now, which is also very modest. We're definitely on the same page as far as modesty goes. Well, we're probably on the same page with a lot of things!
Your girls are ABSOLUTELY adorable, btw!!
Very cute!
They are very cute,and your girls are darling but you can wear a modest swimming suit without wearing something that covered up.

Oh, I am sure we all have our different definitions and levels of convictions when it comes to the topic of modesty. That is to be expected! For us though we feel this is what is the most pleasing to the Lord when it comes to raising our girls. We, however, do not get legalistic about it by judging others for what they choose.
Thank you for the kind comments regarding my girls! =)
Do you have a blog that I may visit?
@HeartWomb - I don't have a blog,but I guess I should,you do have a lovely family,and the Birthday pictures are wonderful,the cakes were so creative.Your children seem to be happy with the littest things.I have 9 Grandchildren and I wish they could be like when I was young,I'm 60 we had a imagination.Also I was adopted when I was 3 months old in Mn,so was my sister.My parents are deseased,but were just wonderful.I have such good memories.I am sorry about the swimming suits because you are right.
Mary
Too cute!! Very modest.
Have you seen the Muslim/Arab swim suits? It's a literal head-to-toe suit. It makes me feel all hot and icky looking at them.
@petsrus -
Mary, thank you so much for blessing me by sharing your story! I love to hear of others who were adopted. You are right...you should have a blog! I would love to hear more from your perspective and especially of all those Grandchildren! God has blessed you richly!
Imagination is a wonderful aspect that God has given to each of us if we choose to use it. I can understand how when you were little that it must have been so much better of an environment to be creative within your imagination! It is hard these days to find the balance as a Mom to give an atmosphere for imagination with all the modern technology and toys. You have inspired me to think "imagination" for the kids as a goal this summer!

I had not seen those suits yet, but then HAD to google about them after you commented here! Sarah, I'm not going that over board!!!
Thanks for the example of another definition of modesty!
*giggle*
I always find it amusing that so many Christians are SO concerned about the modesty of their girls, but very few ever worry about their boys being modest. You never hear of parents trying to teach their boys about the importance of modesty! Why is that? An astonishing number of parents cover their girls from head to knees to go swimming, but let their boys go shirtless. Hmmmm. Double standard, anyone?
But you know me -- sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.
And as you say, different folks have different convictions. For ourselves, we are very convicted of a different approach to modesty entirely. We believe the Biblical injunction towards modesty had more to do with not dressing too richly, and showing off your wealth, than with covering the skin. If you read the 1 Timothy passage, that's what it's talking about. Dressing appropriately, and not too richly, so as not to provide a stumbling block for the poor.
Not that we don't cover our skins, of course.
We do. But we wouldn't dress to show off our wealth even if we had it! LOL
@Conteuse -
Although I don't agree with the "sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander" generally and Biblically speaking, I do agree that modesty should be for boys too. Our boys and Eric will be wearing rash shirts this year for swimming. They just have not arrived in the mail yet to show you!
Regardless, I do think that having girls makes the issue much more of a forefront seeing that I have yet to put on a regular bathing suit on my girls without it riding up their bottoms. They spend more time picking at their bottom than playing! Which only draws even more attention to that area of their body! So, yes in a way I do think that people tend to lean more towards girls seeing that their REALLY private areas tend to be exposed far more than a boys' does. I have loved the UV suits the last few years we have had the girls wear because they could run and play so freely without worrying about their suits staying on properly. On the other hand I don't like the UV suits for the boys though because of the tightness in their really private area. I prefer my boys to wear board shorts instead.
To be clear... I have not based my modesty desires with my children on one single specific scripture as you mentioned the Timothy passage. I know many people take scripture out of context and that is definitely not what I am speaking of here. Rather, our modesty desire has become more of a matter of conscience sort of thing for us. We just feel it's right with the Lord, especially in today's society, to teach our children to dress and act with holiness in mind no matter what activity they are participating in. Like I said above...it's not a legalistic thing for us. It's not like we won't go swimming if all I can find is a normal bathing suit!
However, if I can find something that I feel is more pleasing to the Lord than by all means I'm going to invest in it for my children and myself.
Glad to hear it! I was pretty sure your boys did the swim-shirt thing, which was why I felt safe in commenting on it the double standard -- cuz you guys don't have one.
Kudos. And they do look cute.
those are cute!
