  • Baby Thoughts and Soulfest

I’m super duper busy with Soulfest, but let me tell not a moment goes by that I’m not thinking BABY! Thank you so much for all the congrats! I feel so blessed to have so many excited with me. I have to be honest that last night I got a bit worrisome. Not sure why, but there was just this gut feeling that something was not right. I called the agency late in the evening just to talk. I found out everything is fine adoption wise, but birthmom could use some prayer. So. Knowing you are all prayer warriors out there could you please lift this young lady up today to the Lord? I am sorry I cannot give you her name, but the Lord knows, right?

Here are Soulfest pics so far…

    Soulfest Day Two

I hope to have days three and four up after tonight. If the weather holds up I’m hoping to get more on foot out of the booth to get actual pics of the event. Today is supposed to be the biggest attendance.

In the meantime… I am looking for housing in the state we will be traveling to for the birth and adoption. I am also wondering what in the world am I going to need? I have never had a newborn before! Thankfully, we are not going overseas so no matter what I may need I will be able to find it easily.

So far I’m thinking I need to travel with…

Play N Pack (that has the bassinet aspect of it) Have one of those!
Stroller w/infant car seat (still need to get this as I only have double strollers)
bottles (any suggestions? I’m getting rid of my avent ones because of the BPA in the plastic)
diaper bag with all the little infant essentials
my all time favorite Hug-A-Bub wrap!

What else would I need for about a two week out of state time with a newborn?

  • You have the main thing you will need.. LOTS OF LOVE!!!   Seriously..other than what you mentioned,  a few sleepers or knit shirts, depending on the weather there. Light blankets and soft wash cloths.  Most other things such as diapers & wipes you will be able to get as needed.   Just don’t stock up heavy on newborn sizes.. those are too quickly outgrown.. My own granddaughter was too large for them when she was born and never got to wear some of the cute clothes.

  • A baby tub would be nice, but a towel in the bottom of the sink or tub works, too ;o)

Onsies!  Depending on the area I’d have a few long sleeve ones for evenings or cooler days and short sleeve ones for the rest of the time.  Cute little outfits are adorable, but for everyday life… onsies and little socks are the best.

    Hang in there mama!!!

  • I didn’t get to give you my congratulations right away, but I have been so excited for you!

With a newborn, I don’t think you need any things at all. They don’t need anything but love and food! Well, in the US, I guess you need a carseat to get him home. :)

  • Sounds like you’ve got things pretty well covered.  I was also thinking baby tub.  It makes bath time so much easier, and I was SO NERVOUS about bathing my newborn!

  • Well, I have no idea about infant care, either! I think your baby & mine will be coming round about the same time, so we’re both in for the crash course.

I’ll only be getting BPA-free bottles or glass ones. Glass is kind of impractical, but at least then I “know.” I know the brand “Born Free” is supposed to be good for people who want to avoid the chemicals & such.

Is a Hug-a-Bub wrap like a sling? When I asked around for advice, a lot of moms swore by a baby sling.

  • I am sooo excited for you!!!!

  • I’ve been using the Evenflo glass bottles from Target because they are affordable – about $5 for 3 bottles.

Well I guess that depends on your definition of a sling. A wrap is usually just a piece of material that is tied in such a way to safely carry the baby. A sling typically has clips, rings or buckles to help attach it to your body. I prefer the wrap style myself because they tend to hold the child closest to my body and don’t hurt my back. I especially do not like the one shoulder slings with the big rings. They kill my back!! If you don’t like the wrap style then the next best suggestion that I like is the Ergo which has clips. Unlike the wrap that can fit any size baby alone, with the Ergo you need to get an infant insert. I probably will be using my wrap for the infant stages for sure!

  • Oh so exciting! You’ll have to update with all of your greatest finds so I can soak up your info before December!

Sarah, today I was thinking about you and telling my husband about your exciting news. I remembered that you wrote about a dream last year about being pregnant, which you said was strange because you cannot conceive. (It struck a chord as I’ve had family with similar experiences) http://www.xanga.com/HeartWomb/629337434/stuff.html Well, if I did my mental-math right, that dream nearly coincides with a September due date. Sounds like your dream was a reality! What a blessing all around!

Wow! That brought me to tears!!! Thank you so much for bringing my attention back to that journal. I had forgotten until now. I remember the day I blogged that and felt like I didn’t have much to say. I’m glad I did type something because that something has now become very meaningful. I’m in awe… =)
