  • Much Needed Time of Refreshment!

I think the pic says it all! Good thing we have a nine year old who likes cameras or there would never be any pics of Mama and Papa together!  I put it in black and white because we were right at sunset and completely orange. Anyway, we cleaned up our house on Friday for the realtor to be able to show it and then took off for a few days to camp. Eric actually worked on Sunday by traveling to speak at a now supporting church of our ministry. Other than that we took a few days just to be. Unfortunately, we had terrible weather with constant rain storms (which also equals Mama having a good migraine) but we made the best of it. The kids got to spend some time playing lots of games with their Mini (Grandmother) and we were also able to see several other family members and friends. I have more pics to share but this will do for tonight. Now I need a good night's sleep! Vacations are good but there is no place like home in my own bed.

  • Pin Wheels for the 4th!

Thankfully we went to see the fireworks last night since it's beginning to rain now and we are expecting thunderstorms all night. Luckily in our area they do it on the 3rd rather than the 4th. For years we have tried to see fireworks out of state while on vacation. However, we have found it's not nearly as fun when you go without family, friends or not being with people we see everyday in our community. This year ended up being a blast staying home and getting to see everyone we knew!!! Fireworks are fun but sharing them with friends are even better.

Jared immediately found our Pastor and his family out of the 5,000+ people. After many attempts of trying to wave wildly to get Pastor's attention Papa called him on the cell phone and told him to look down below. We, of course, were all waving wildly again so he would see us. Jared was tickled when he waved back at us and especially after Pastor told him on the cell phone "you enjoy the fireworks ok buddy?" Very sweet!

All of the kids enjoyed the fireworks. Phoebe was hesitant at first but then a BIG green one (her favorite color currently) came across the sky and she was then sold on the idea that fireworks were the best! She eventually bravely crawled right down on the blanket next to Caleb and Papa oooing and aaahing over each one. Jared was so excited that he couldn't even sit down! Literally he stood through the entire show! LOL He also wanted to know the logistics of how the fireworks were created and worked. Of course, the firetrucks and constant appearance of the police were the biggest highlights of his night! Chloe was not thrilled from the beginning as she tends to have anxieties socially as well as with big booms. She kept plugging her ears before they even began but by the middle of the show she was laying more relaxed in my lap calling out each color with my prompting.

At the end we caught up with our church friends to walk out with them. We also had an unexpected visit with one of our dear elderly ladies in our
church because we parked near her house. We couldn't get out of traffic
for about an hour. They said this year was the largest crowd we have ever
had and people were actually backed up on the exit ramp off the highway! WOW! Anyway,
seeing that Marianne was still up herself we decided to see if she was
up for a quick visit while we waited. It was a lovely ending to our night!

You won't believe that I didn't even take one picture last night. I do have a couple from today when I gave the kids their 4th of July flag pin wheels.

Three blew on it while Jared was figuring out to place it in the direction of the wind.

When the wind died down they made their own running as fast as they could! Remember being so free like this as a child? Those were the days!

"SEE MAMA IT WORKS!"  Then she cooperated with me to get the face behind the spinning pin wheel.

Phoebe where is the wind? "Over there!" Then she gives a cute smile when the wind hits her pin wheel.

    Now the wind changes direction!

Caleb figures out he can see himself on the other side of the pin wheel!

Jared gives it a try too! Yup, that's a handsome face of a proud American Citizen!

    Happy 231st Birthday America!!!!

  • After Grammie's committal service the children picked wild Daisies to put on Grammie's grave stone.

The girls wanted to "plant" the daisies. Doesn't Phoebe look so cute after she got one to stand up tall and look pretty for her Great Grammie?

I think Grammie would have been very pleased!

  • Butterfly Etc.

I may be missing in action for a couple of days. We will be going to VT for my Grandmother's burial in which Eric is officiating. Pray for Eric as he prepares and for our family for continued comfort.

A special friend who came to visit my Garden one morning!

  • We have a birthday girl today!

Please stop by my cousin Kimmy's site and wish her a good one!

Happy Birthday to my precious cousin who God made with such a caring and sweet heart! (Kimmy this was actually at my 4th b-day but how appropriate that you were wearing a b-day hat!)

Kimmy is sitting between my legs in the red shirt with my cousin David on the left.

Look at her sweet little face sitting there all cute in her yellow dress and hair bows! I'm in back of Kimmy with the funny looking glasses along with her brother David and her sister Jenny in the front. Wendy wasn't born yet.

Slumber parties may come back to haunt you!

And she was afraid to grow up on her 30th b-day last year! Puhlease!!!  Kimmy, you will always have that special child like heart that I so much appreciate about you. It's the best aspect that runs in our family!!

Lots of love to my cousin who always knows how to have a good time!!!! xoxo

  • Water Fun Continue

Since the girls decided their favorite spot was in the "pool" section of the slip-n-slide and that just wasn't going to do for the boys we had to find another alternative.

We got out the turtle sandbox to be their wading pool.

I brought out my house plants and the girls helped me water them and get the dust all off their leaves.

Phoebe then watered her little tomato plant and Chloe watered her cucumber plant.

A yummy snack for a job well done! OK, so it wasn't the healthiest snack but I had a craving for oreos and milk really bad. I had a good giggle just when I was going to post pics of our Oreo snack earlier OumaB wrote a very convicting post. Check it out to see what I mean!

  • Water Fun!

It's been hot and only getting hotter as the days go on this week! The kids had a blast yesterday with their new yard toy. (quick intermission before you see the pics... we did put an offer on the house last night that we found close to campus with an attached student apartment.... we will see what happens!)

Jared went so fast that I mostly got his big slash! I got wet on the last one!

Caleb loved sitting in the sprinkler and look at that face as he comes in for the big splash!

The girls were not too sure about this new contraption in their yard!

Phoebe figured out that if she stepped on the hose she could control that crazy spray of water. Of course her brothers didn't enjoy this aspect when it wasn't done at the most convenient timing! See Jared in the background of the first pic? He would kink the hose which really added to her confusion! lol

Chloe cautiously tried to catch the water in her hands. Then she made her way to the safety zone of the patio and picked a peony petal!!

We finally convinced the girls to try to go on their belly with the water off.

Phoebe got the courage to crawl under the water!

Chloe decided she would walk first. Look at her face to the reaction of the cold water!

    Silly kids!

    To be continued...

  • Caleb Learning to Mow!

Proof that he is doing better today!

I love capturing these Father and Son moments!
  • Big Brothers are the Greatest!

Look how sweet Jared was last night trying to make Caleb feel better! We had a little scare when Caleb suddenly came down with abdominal pain that caused him to writhe and cry a lot. This is my kid that never tells us he is sick. We waited it out, according to the pediatricians consultation, and he seems all better today. Phew! Jared did get a few smiles out of Caleb during his puppet show! What a great big brother!

  • Eclectic Moments of June

Our trip to MO was cancelled this month due to me breaking my tooth. I was flossing my teeth when I heard a big metal sounding thud hit the counter. I not only lost a huge filling but the dentist thinks I had broken my tooth beyond the filling issue. So, I had to have my tooth worked on during the days we were supposed to be traveling out. Currently I have had my tooth (the part that was left -I lost about 1/3 of my tooth already) completely drilled down to a stub with a temporary crown. It hurts worse than when I had the filling fall out with a broken tooth! I guess it's to be expected after all the work they did and the fact that the temporary crown is only plastic and not fully sealed. I am praying that the permanent crown does the trick otherwise I waisted an aweful lot of money if I end up wanting them to pull it! Right now I have conceeded to eating on one side.

I had a great giggle when I came back from the dentist and Caleb came up to me excited saying now I am "queened" I had no idea what he meant and finally asked why he thought I was now a queen. His response, "Because you now have a crown!

Chloe Sporting her own fashion statement! Gotta love the pink and orange Gap sneakers, baby blue athletic shorts, light pink knee socks and light purple 3/4 shirt! She dressed herself obviously on this morning.

Phoebe is going to keep up with her brother's and learn to ride that bike! Good thing she likes green so she doesn't mind that it's her brother Jared's old bike. Phoebe also learned to pump her legs to swing all by herself on Father's Day. Doesn't she look proud?!

Caleb has been loving the new blocks I found at the children's second hand store for real cheap! All of the kids have made some really creative buildings. Here Caleb turned his into a robot in the end.

Uh, Chloe why are all the flowers picked off my chives? "So we can eat them now. You can't eat the one's with flowers." I had been telling the kids to pick and eat the chives that had no flowers. I guess Chloe thought that she would resolve the matter in her own hands and be able to eat ALL the chives! It was one of those moments where as a parent you just had to laugh. Poor girl was confused though when I took her pic. She wasn't sure if she was in trouble and very confused as to why Mama and Papa would laugh after catching her picking flowers in the garden. She went from a pout to a smile as she realized we were just going to have some fun with this one!

Father's Day Fun! A kind soul took our family pic above.  Everyone has a snow cone after feasting on french fries and fried dough. I was holding our cotton candy that we traditionally eat as we watch the balloons go up. We went to a balloon festival but just when the balloons were going to fill up and take off a thunderstorm rolled in. No balloons but great fun food and we saw a BEAUTIFUL rainbow in the sky!!

Jared and Caleb both loved their "Ukraine Travel toys" that I gave them early for getting their travel vaccines. These are matchbox pop ups that fold up really small as you can see in the first pic. Jared got a contstruction and fire station one while Caleb got a Dino and a city shop for gas, tow truck and car wash. These fit in a small child's back pack! They can easily be played with even on the little tables connected to the plane seats.

Caleb the animal rescuerer! Papa has had baby squirrels getting in our shed and garbage so Grampa let us borrow his have a heart trap. Today we got a red squirrel that Caleb and Papa released at the Park. Caleb let him go by the pond thinking it was quieter and calmer without so many people to bother him. Too cute!

Jared had a dentist appointment this week and came home like this. He has added "dentist" to his long list of what he wants to be when he grows up. Our new dentist was excellent with him!!
